From July 5 to August 1 African people and others from around the world will gather in St. Petersburg, Florida at the Uhuru House for our historic 2014 Summer Project.

Participants will travel to St Petersburg from Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and throughout the U.S., coming together for a 30-day intensive summer project for international networking and practical training, building sustainable economic development and community programs. The project also includes study of Africa’s history and current conditions, community organizing, physical education and health and fitness.

The 4-week summer project will connect African people from throughout the world with our local community to be able share skills and expertise with the goal to uplift Africa and African people everywhere out of poverty and desperation through economic self-sufficiency programs.

Many local restaurants, caterers and food vendors have generously contributed to the project. Donors include the Jerk Hut, the King and I Thai, La V Vietnamese restaurant, A Taste of Ethiopia, The Fresh Market, Wildwood and Coquina Key meat markets, Obama Express, the Blue Nile and others.

As a fully accredited 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit, AAPDEP was founded in 2006 and has a track record of building self-sufficiency projects in Africa and in the U.S. These projects include birthing and midwifery clinics, rainwater harvesting and community farms in West Africa, and black community gardens in St. Petersburg, Houston, Texas, Huntsville, Alabama, Washington, DC and other areas in the U.S.

AAPDEP will provide housing and three meals a day for the participants of this important project.
